Securing your email in Microsoft Live Mail

Open Windows Live Mail by selecting the Start button . In the search box, enter Mail, and then, in the list of results, select Windows Live Mail.

Select the email account you want to check.

From the ‘Accounts’ tab, click ‘Properties’.

Select the ‘Servers’ tab: Both incoming & outgoing mail should be inputted as per Worthers email.
If unselected , click ‘Log on using clear text authentication’.
If unticked, click ‘My server requires authentication’.
5. Click on the ‘Settings’ button next to "My server requires authentication".
If unselected, click ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’ and click ‘OK’.

7. Select Advanced tab.
8. Check the ‘Outgoing mail (SMTP) is set to 465. Tick ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’. If incoming mail is set to 143 (IMAP) or 110 (POP) Change this to 993 for (IMAP), or 995 for POP and tick ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’.
7. Click OK to close the "Properties" window, then click Close to close the "Accounts" window.
If you have not had SSL switched on, you will need to change your email password to keep your email account safe. Before you do this in MIcrosoft Live, you will need to change your password at the email server.
